I told you that you weren’t going to get a new cartoon until Sunday. I was wrong.
I had a good day yesterday. I was on a panel with two lions of my industry, Jack Ohman and Kevin Kallaugher, here at the convention for the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC). I finished my cartoon for the FXBG Advance, and did it with several of my colleagues watching me draw from over my shoulder. Later, I had dinner with a few of my friends, and we had a great talk about life, business, politics, and cartooning. From there, I had a few drinks with other colleagues and made some new friends. At one point, a political cartooning colleague of mine approached me, saying he had just met another cartoonist who was a fan and wanted to meet me. During all this, I forgot about my phone. I didn’t check email, texts, or social media at all.
I was tired and ready to go to bed when I got back to my, but figured I’d check some social media, messages, email, notifications, ect. Then I saw some vague threatening posts featuring my previous Charlie Kirk cartoon, with one of them saying, about me, “Let’s make this guy famous.”
I didn’t have to draw a cartoon. I didn’t have to draw one until Monday. But I didn’t even take off my jacket before this cartoon was done. I didn’t even use my drawing glove. I saw a few hate posts, opened my iPad, and went to work.
Dear Fucknuts: I’m not afraid of you. If you’re going to worship a fascist bigot, then I’m going to mock you and call you out. As I wrote a couple of days ago, I’m all out of fucks to give, and I refuse to be intimidated or scared of piss-ant MAGAts like you.
I’m not celebrating Kirk’s death or mocking him. I’m mocking you.
