Host Olha Bilan, together with her guest Ed Stier former Federal and NJ State Prosecutor who specialised in complex organised crime and corruption prosecutions, discussed the psychological state of the Kremlin dictator, Vladimir Putin. They analysed his political decisions and speculated on what might be driving them. They also debated whether it’s appropriate to compare Putin to Hitler. A psychopath has no emotions or short-term and strategic thinking abilities. You and I feel love, empathy and fear. They think none of that. And so, as a child, they have a feeling of emptiness. They have no feelings of affection, they can’t relate to other people and feel empty inside. They learn at an early age to fill that emptiness with sorts of behaviour that give them some sort of satisfaction. We don’t understand how that satisfaction works inside but they are all drawn to the same thing. That satisfaction comes from manipulating and hurting other people. It starts with young children popularly characterised by hurting small animals and having no friends. They tend to be loners and tell lies as easily as they state the truth. If you put a psychopath on a lie detector, they show no emotion. They are manipulative in a Machiavellian sense: Machiavellianism is the name of a personality trait construct characterised by interpersonal manipulation, indifference to morality, lack of empathy, a calculated focus on self-interest, and a cynical outlook towards human behaviour.
