Former NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson has told Times Radio the West must ramp up production of weapons for Ukraine. Speaking on a panel on Times Radio’s Frontline with Lucy Fisher he said Russia had switched to a ‘war economy’ and the West needed to catch up: “Russia is running a war economy, He’s declared war on us. Their defence expenditure is going up by 60%. In the last year, year on year, he’s opening factories, they are producing more tanks, producing more armoured vehicles, more ammunition, and what do we do? Hardly anything at all. We’re running out of these things. And we’re certainly not ramping up production in our factories.

You the Americans are giving Abrams tanks, great stuff off the production line, not not from their huge store. No. The reason, of course, is because they don’t want sensitive technology to get into Russian hands. But you know, but we’re not as serious about this war as Russia is. And you know, Leon Trotsky once said, you might not be interested in this war, but this war is interested in you. We should, we should learn that.”
