Although Spain remained officially neutral during the Second World War, Francisco Franco quietly but consistently aided the Axis. Grateful for Hitler and Mussolini’s support in the Spanish Civil War, Franco promoted fascism at home, praised the Axis in speeches, and cooperated with Nazi leaders. Spain supplied Germany and Italy with strategic materials like tungsten, allowed Axis ships and U-boats to refuel at Spanish ports, and hosted German intelligence stations that monitored Allied naval movements. Franco also permitted volunteers—the “Blue Division”—to fight under German command on the Eastern Front. While he stopped short of fully entering the war, pressured by Allied threats and Spain’s weakened post–civil war state, Franco’s regime nonetheless provided extensive covert support that materially benefited the Axis cause.

Jack Ohman – Substack and Tribune Content Agency American farmers, once the stoic Marlboro Men of the national imagination, are now standing knee-deep in the wreckage of a trade war they never asked for, watching their livelihoods sink slowly beneath a tidal wave of $9 soybeans and presidential “A-plus-plus-plus” economic self-grades.
But fear not: President Trump has unveiled a $12 billion farmer bailout, a financial life preserver made of wet cardboard and patriotic slogans. Farmers are grateful, sure, but it’s hard to cheer for a Band-Aid when your leg is missing. “We don’t want bailouts,” they say. “We want to not be financially obliterated by policy choices made during golf trips.”
The crisis is so deep that farmers are skipping equipment maintenance, trimming fertilizer costs, and, in truly dire cases, working side jobs, because nothing screams “thriving agricultural sector” like soybean farmers driving for Uber. Bankruptcies are up nearly 60%, and experts warn we’re replaying the 1980s farm crisis, but this time with better Wi-Fi and worse policy.
Meanwhile, Brazil—China’s new BFF—is doubling its soybean output like it’s training for the agricultural Olympics, leaving U.S. farmers to watch their markets evaporate in slow motion. As one farmer put it: “It’s like watching a train wreck in slow motion.” (A phrase you’ll soon see printed on commemorative T-shirts in the gift shop of America’s farm economy.)
Meanwhile, the United States has decided to play Santa to Argentina’s financial Grinch, lavishing tens of billions in bailout cash and dollar swaps on the South American nation just as its peso was careening toward Worthlessville, ostensibly to stabilize its economy and boost the electoral fortunes of President Javier Milei, who, according to Trump, simply “had a lot of help” from his bailout checks. The deal’s stated goal is to prop up Argentina’s battered currency and lure nervous investors back into the fold, though critics grumble that it looks less like neighborly assistance and more like using American dollars as political seasoning, all while U.S. farmers wait for their own relief packages.
In the end, the bailout will help farmers survive the year—barely—but everyone agrees on one thing: you can’t keep setting your own house on fire and calling the damage “unexpected.” Without real, stable trade policy, the only thing American farmers will be harvesting is anxiety.

Vladimir Putin. The fella on the right
President of Russia (1999–2008, 2012–present)

Dear Elon Musk.

You are one billionaire I can think of who hasn’t stolen their way to their profits. Your continued support for the Starlink system upon which President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy of Ukraine and his countrymen and women rely to defeat the one-sided illegal onslaught. Please step up to the mark. Malcolm Patten

First of all, I think Putin in his military fatigues when he went to Kursk, just looks like a stupid little man. President Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelenskyy of Ukraine, on the other hand, looks like a warrior ~ Sir Bill Browder

The GOP just spent millions convincing its voters that mail ballots were safe, effective, and even—dare we say—patriotic. And it worked: Republicans closed the mail-voting gap in swing states and even outpaced Democrats in places like North Carolina and Arizona. But now, Donald Trump has decided to light that investment on fire like a stack of Dominion voting machines doused

Who would have thought it? A man who has his tiny hands on nuclear codes and who is Commander in Chief of the worlds most powerful military complex is at he same time weak and timid before another man who is simply brighter and in charge of a crumbling economy, a resourceful yet badly led military and who will not win the war he has engaged in since 2014. He just doesn’t have all the cards!

This ‘Tiny Hands’ man Trump deserves to be charged with war crimes, alongside Putin for the death of countless Ukrainians after Krasnov applied the Kill Switch to US intelligence recently. What bravery and one up to the KGB!

The United States of America is the UK’s Number One Military Ally. We shall have to endure a malign stochastic sociopath felon becoming the US president. How does that work we wonder…

“Judge Juan Merchan seems hellbent on making Donald Trump take the oath of office saying, ‘I, Donald Trump, a convicted felon, do solemnly swear … .’ He’s scheduled Trump’s hush money sentencing for January 10 and doesn’t seem inclined to change it, though he does say he won’t send the president to prison. Trump is suing. Inauguration Day is the 20th.”-CB

“The front-runner candidate of the Republican party who — along with his most fanatical accomplices — has spent recent years trying to deny that he is a puppet of Putin, is becoming more and more explicit in his adoration of the criminal Russian dictator.” – PM
